Peacocks Do Not Like Snow

As the weather changes yet again, the snow begins and some of our family members are not too keen on the snow. One of which is Penrose our peacock who certainly does not enjoy the snow. I think he is wishing he is in India with his cousins.

The Stream Freezes Over

As the cold weather continues the beck begins to freeze over. You do have to remember to look after those animals, the frost can look fantastic but does make it very harsh for the wildlife.

Remember To Feed The Birds

When we have a hard frost remember our feathered friends, as they do struggle at this time of year. Why not make your own feeder by foraging for a nice fir cone still attatched to a little branch. Melt some full fat shredded suet in a pan, when melted add some mixed wild bird seed. As the mixture begins to cool dip the fir cone in the bird seed mixture with the help of the suet the bird seed will stick to the cone. Place on a baking tray until cold then tie up onto a tree with garden twine, making sure you will be able to see all of your visiting birds from the comfort of your home. Hopefully I will be able to follow up these pictures with one of a bird enjoying the feast, possible a great tit or a robin although we do have a regular visits from a woodpecker.

The Frost Of January

The hard frost sets in, making everything look very pretty but making it very hard for new growth coming through. A lone Snowdrop doing its best to hold its own.

Helleborus Brings The First Flash Of Colour

Now that Christmas and New Year is over the heart needs lifting, and there in the corner of the garden a flash of colour. It comes from the helleborus or also known as Christmas Rose. Just what the spirit needs as the bleak winter takes hold. This year I have promised myself to plant more rather than being in one corner, as it is such a pleasure to see, it deserves to be in pride of place.
