The Hosta Breaks Through



Hosta is a genus of about 45 species, native to northeast Asia. The name comes from the Austrian botanist Nicholas Thomas Host. Hostas are are perennial plants growing from rhizomes or stolons. There are over 3,000 registered and named varieties, and many more not registered. The Hosta is edible and in Japan where they are known as urui  are considered as a delicacy. Hostas are the favourite food for deer, slugs and snails can destroy a large Hosta too.
