Leap Year Wedding

The origins of the lady asking the man to marry. The folklore surrounding a Leap Year Wedding goes back so far it is now shrouded in myths and tales. Though in the 13th century it is said there was a Scottish act of Parliament and this was enshrined in English common Law. The act stated the men who declined the invitation to wed were find £100. Another twist, if the girl who did the asking had failed to wear a scarlet flannel petticoat, or if a corner of the same were not partly visible under her dress, the man who declined would be spared the ill luck that a turn down would be inflicted on the poor gentleman. If you have been lucky with your request or if a fine is due to a man you know. Why not have a look a Period Cottage Interiors as you may fined the perfect gift or something appropriate for a fine. The First Crocus

The first Crocus shows itself, with many more to follow. The name of the crocus is derived from Greek krokos. This in turn is probably a borrowed word from a Semitic language, related to Hebrew karkom, Aramaic kurkama, Persian and Arabic, meaning saffron or saffron yellow. The name ultimately comes from Sanskrit. Crocus is a genus in the iris family, with about 80 species. Crocuses are native to woodland, scrub and meadows from sea level to alpine tundra in central and southern Europe,North Africa and Middle East and across Central Asia but they do always look good and very rewarding to see them come up every Spring in the English cottage garden.

Valentine

St Valentine was a fourth century Roman martyr who was put to death for taking pity on Christian prisoners on a cold night. Valentine's day as we know it today started 200 years ago, when nice young ladies were heavily chaperoned. They would be sent posies of flowers with hidden meanings by their seceret suitors. In the language of flowers lavender, myrtle and rosemary signified faithfulness, while roses would change their meaning depending on their colour. It is just a shame February is not a good time for flowers, and the ones that are available cost a premium.  So in the meantime have a look at Period Cottage Interiors and see what you may find.
